“Mike, just wanted to tell you that I got a call (actually a voicemail message) on our home phone. It was the coach of the Creek Gold team congratulating Alex for making the gold team. I’ve saved the message so Alex can hear it. But…he said that Alex was the only silver player from last year that was asked to move to gold. He also said that he chose Alex because of how much he had improved from last year’s tryout to this year. I am telling you this because we owe so so much of his improvement to YOU! You encourage him to bring his best game to group and let him know how he can improve or let him know when he doesn’t bring his best game. Thank you so much for everything!!!! I know you are going out of town the following week. I just couldn’t wait that long to let you know.

“Skylar and Evan Motlong worked with coach Mike in his highly acclaimed shooting clinic. Mike was able to correct some mechanical flaws that he pinpointed and both have improved their shots tremendously! Both plan on going to the courts every day of spring break to work on their shot, implementing Mike’s suggestions.”

“My daughter, Katelyn McDaniel, has played with several of her friends since they were young girls in elementary school. She began with HRCA, followed by ongoing JAM leagues and numerous MAYB tournaments. As a 6th grader, she did not earn a spot with her group of friends on the Gold Crown team at Highlands Ranch. That was absolutely the turning point for Katelyn…and it was the BEST thing that ever happened to her. She was faced with the choice to give up completely or to invest more than she ever had. Katelyn opted, for herself, to take it to the next level. She then joined her first club team. Her club team was still not enough for her and we sought out personal instruction from Mike O’Connell.
No player ever wants to hear about their weaknesses. For my daughter, Mike had the wisdom to bring that to our attention and to have Katelyn focus on her ball-handling skills (since she has always been tall and was only used as a post) and to use her left hand (since she is a strong right-hander).
Mike is very candid, intense, knowledgeable, disciplined, structured…but most of all, he genuinely and relentlessly cares wholeheartedly about the best interest of every player who goes through his program or who steps on his court. I can only speak for myself and my daughter, but the change in her intensity, her renewed passion for the game at a young age, her drive to challenge herself, and her willingness to accept and understand her flaws in order to change them and improve upon them was directly due to Mike’s involvement.
The highlight for Katelyn was playing as the only girl in an all-boys tournament, under the coaching of Mike. We love the constant blend of boys and girls and it truly makes them all better players. Katelyn would most definitely not be the player she is today without Mike’s investment. Thanks for caring so much about my daughter and making a profound
